Don’t Say "Gay"

Teaching Tennessee 9th graders about anything except what they define as, “natural human reproduction science” has passed the State Senate as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. (Sssh! If we don’t say it, it doesn’t exist.) This is ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ in the 9th grade. It gets even stranger.

I wonder if the legislators pushing for this are aware of the rash of teen suicides that devastated Anoka-Hennepin school district after they enacted a similar measure.

Measures like this are based on the false assumption that homosexuality is something kids can catch, like the flu, if they hear about it at too young an age. It's not like that (just imagine: would you have switched orientations if someone had dared mention gays in front of you as a kid? Probably not - you're attracted to who you're attracted to, and no words can change that). So rather than halting the "spread" of something that doesn't spread in the first place, this approach muzzles educators and cuts off gay youth from support and positive role models.

Great point, Steve. Unfortunately, you have people like Keith Ablow on the news warning people against letting their kids watch Chaz Bono on DWTS because they might "catch transgenderism" - oh, and don't forget Mr (?) Bachman and his pray away the gay clinics. These people and others of their ilk (like Pat Robertson) put forth the most disgusting opinions - like saying it would be better for a child to be an orphan or have a violent felon for a parent than a gay. That gays shouldn't have children becasue gays are pedophiles, or becasue having a gay parent might cause the kid to turn out gay (To which I say, watch Zach Wahl's incredible video on YouTube to see what kind of son 2 gays can raise!)

This bill is Gay! What if Gay was used in a context other then sexual? Would that still be taboo? Banning a word? First it was banning books, now words, what will be next? What about that old piece of paper that grants us the freedom to say Gay, read what we want, speak our minds, bear arms, right to representation, and pursuit of happiness? Have these law makers completely forgotten what their decisions should be based upon?

You do understand the typical communist beliefs are pretty much aligned with the democrat party beliefs...right?? You do your own research..right?? Or just repeat what you are told by the left-wing leaders??

Louis: Remedial political science for you! If you want to pursue your fantasy that Democrats are really Communists, then, by your own logic, Republicans are Fascists. Learn to tone down your rhetoric. Democrats are people-centric. Republicans are property-centric. Those are the basic fundamentals of both parties.

Frank Property-centric is people-centric when it is the private property rights of people one is protecting and fighting for.

Louis by your belief system, that makes conservatives aligned with the Nazi party of Germany. Think about it....you want to teach a specific belief system in your schools, you only tolerate those with the same ideals as yourselves, you want to wage war on anyone who doesn't appreciate your style of democracy, you want the military to be stronger than necessary, you have a hate on for minorities and certain religious groups....and you're almost to the point where you want women to wear your own metaphors for burquas. But you're right, this isn't Tennessee showing communism....that was a bad comparison. This shows the GOP of being....well....far right and ignorant.
